Bytes to MB
Converts bytes to megabytes (MB) and mebibytes (MiB).
Convert bytes to KB in one step. The result shows kilobytes (1,000 bytes) and kibibytes (1,024 bytes) together, so you can match whichever one your system uses.
KB = bytes ÷ 1,000 KiB = bytes ÷ 1,024
| Bytes | KB | KiB |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0.001 | 0.0009765625 |
| 100 | 0.1 | 0.09765625 |
| 512 | 0.512 | 0.5 |
| 1,000 | 1 | 0.9765625 |
| 1,024 | 1.024 | 1 |
| 4,096 | 4.096 | 4 |
| 10,000 | 10 | 9.765625 |
| 65,536 | 65.536 | 64 |
| 100,000 | 100 | 97.65625 |
| 1,000,000 | 1,000 | 976.5625 |
Kilobytes suit small files: plain-text documents, short emails, icons, configuration files, and the code of a web page. When a size in bytes has four to six digits, KB is usually the easiest unit to read. Beyond about 1,000,000 bytes, megabytes are clearer.
Watch the capital letters. KB is kilobytes, while Kb or kbit is kilobits, which are 8 times smaller. Network speeds such as 512 kbps are in kilobits.
1,000 in the SI system and 1,024 in the binary system (called a kibibyte, KiB).
Divide by 1,000 for KB, or by 1,024 for KiB.
Computer memory is addressed in powers of two, so older software used 1,024. The KiB unit was introduced in 1998 to separate the two meanings.
Often used together with the Bytes to KB.
Converts bytes to megabytes (MB) and mebibytes (MiB).
Converts any data-size unit to all other units at once.
Converts bytes to gigabytes (GB) and gibibytes (GiB).
