How it works
Each unit is an exact number of liters:

US and UK measures are not the same
The US and the UK both use gallons, pints, and fluid ounces, but the sizes differ. A UK (imperial) gallon is about 20% larger than a US gallon, and a UK pint is 20 UK fluid ounces while a US pint is 16 US fluid ounces. That is why this converter lists both systems separately.
For cooking, the US cup is 236.6 mL. Many recipes outside the US use a 250 mL metric cup, which is close enough for most dishes but not for baking.
Limitations
- Volume can't be negative.
- Dry measures (US dry pint, bushel) and the metric cup are not included.
- Converting a volume to a weight (for example cups of flour to grams) needs the density of the ingredient, which this tool doesn't know.
